Looking for the best Windows 7 WB skin for XP? Get it here [link]

AeroTime Final
Released June 25, 2009, 2:15 PM ET

This is the final version of AeroTime!

The time has finally come for me to move on to Aero Xtreme 7. The clear Start Menu that was intended for AeroTime SE4 turned out to be a Windows 7 Style start menu which prompted me to halt all development of AeroTime and concentrate my efforts on a Windows 7 WB skin.

AeroTime Final Changelog
- Fixed Start Menu 'All Programs' mouse over highlight to not cover arrow. Highlight bar has also been shortened so that the 'All Programs' list does not accidentally appear when crossing over that region.
- Fixed painting issue with bottom 32 px taskbar
- Improved button corners for Shutdown and Logoff dialogs
- Re-instated custom user pictures for this final version (with SE3 Vista user frames)

Enjoy this final release of AeroTime and watch for a the first beta of Aero Xtreme 7 XP for WB coming in early July 2009!

P.S.: Please remember to :+fav: if you like this deviation and, most importantly, add InTime Applications to your deviant watch/friends list to get the scoop on the latest info and deviations.

:new: Added Aero 7 Glass Taskbar (with no Aero Stripes) and matching Aero 7 Glass Maximized Frame (clear and sky versions - this is the ultimate in tranparency - default in AeroTime SE3.3)

InTime

NOTE: AeroTime now offers 12 taskbar styles with matching maximized frames available in Clear and Sky versions - for a total of 24 taskbars!

AeroTime SE3.2 (Special Edition 3.2)
Released June 11, 2009, 3:40 PM ET

This version of AeroTime brings perfect Windows 7 and Vista user pictures, improved Start Menu right panel mouseover image and new glass Shutdown and Logoff dialogs based on Aero Xtreme for Launchy.

Enjoy this update!

InTime

NOTE: Custum user pictures are no longer available with AeroTime. They will however be submitted as a seperate deviation. This will allow me to add more custom user pictures without updating AeroTime. Coming soon...

Several other skins, including Aero Ultimate by fediaFedia, were inspirational in the making of AeroTime but no images were copied from these skins.

A few images from Stardock's Diamond skin might still remain in AeroTime but 99% of them were replaced since they were not accurate enough. In any case, the Diamond skin can be used as a base for any skin without permission.

The ease of application, the attention to detail, the legitimate concern for end-users and the universal applicability (32 and 48 pixel icons; top and bottom shell) make this not overly-ambitious WindowBlinds skin the best (yes, I said best) I have ever downloaded. The ease with which user pics can be changed (no SkinStudio required) and the bounty of user pics included should more than meet any XP user's need for variety. There are other user modifications included in Aerotime, all of them straightforward and easy to apply.
Add to that the slickest, most professional presentation of a piece of freeware I have seen on deviantART (or damn near anywhere) and you have the ingredients for unqualified success. This skin is a masterpiece.

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Thanks so much! This was actually the first skin I ever made several years ago. As you have seen, I did a Win7 style WB skin as well. Since I got my notebook with Windows 7, I have stopped skinning. So Aero Xtreme 7 XP will regrettably be my last skin. Thanks again for the kind words!

Just tried it, and I thought that I had already the theme that most suited my needs, but as a matter of fact I was wrong: this masterpiece gives the final touch to my desires on theming. I spent a long time busy with manually customizing my XP Pro to Win 7 Ultimate using resource hacker to alter dll-files and more, but I only have acknowledged 3 minor flaws in your theme, even though at least 2 of them are not your fault nor concern:

1) the logonui.exe of Windows 7 ultimate is ugly light blue and doesn't quite fit with your theme after logging in, the color contrast is too big, a brown start menu is not what I had in mind.

2) Why is there in almost any theme a fake search bar on the bottom of the start menu (left) ??? We all know that XP doesn't support that, and utilities like ViStart and ViGlance (and even Winflip, truetranparancy and many sidebars) are still too unstable and are the first things that you better NOT use if you don't want big resource hogs and/or a sudden crash with all consequences involved if you haven't backed up your files in time. That's why I use Windowblinds, it's stable and has endless features. So imho it doesn't make any sense to include a fake search bar, then it's still better not to include such fake options in the start menu. XP doesn't support this feature anyway.

3) Right-clicking on the taskbar to change options always results in a crash of explorer.exe ... a pity because this task bar is fully transparant and as flat as a Windows 7 superbar, but without those big annoying buttons, so I can still use my old quickstart-menu, but not able to change anything.

A solution could be: a Windows 7 logonui.exe (for XP, widescreen) with another colour than this terrible dissapointing ugly blue, perhaps a darker colour (nearly black?). I wonder where I could find such a logon.

But nevertheless, it's a very userfriendly theme to customize! Unfortunately I still miss my own avatar on top of the start-menu, and correct me if I'm wrong, I thought that I have read somewhere else this afternoon that you could fix that on demand? Would be nice if you have some spare time left :)

Final judgement = passed "cum laude" !

First off, thanks for taking the time to write such an extensive comment!

A sequel to AeroTime is in the making called Aero Xtreme 7 XP. Alpha 8 is available for download and testing [link]

Concerning the fake search bar, it's simply there for looks. Nothing more. Without it, the Start Menu would not look as good nor would it look like a Vista or Windows 7 style Start Menu. Custom user pictures will be available once Aero Xtreme 7 XP hits the final stages in a few months. AeroTime custom user pictures are no longer supported!

If you have the most recent release of WB (I think it's 6.4), explorer should not crash! So try updating and, if at all possible, make sure that you do a clean install - uninstall first. This will fix a lot of issues and bugs related to WB.

If you like AeroTime, you will definitely like Aero Xtreme 7 XP! It has slim substyles so you will be able to use your small Quick Launch icons.

Let me know what you think of Aero Xtreme 7 XP (on the Aero Xtreme 7 XP page please [link]).

Your comments are much appreciated :)

Hi,

I will download and test your Aero Xtreme 7 XP theme Alpha 8 as soon as I can, but it's over 6 AM CET overhere now (GMT+1 timezone, included summer daylight savings means in practice GMT+2), I really need some sleep first, and afterwards first of all doing what I have to do. So maybe tonight (late night) I can take the necessary time to test and evaluate.

About my often "extensive" comments. I'm a pro. Just read my first journal post about who I am and you will find the answers. If any questions remain unanswered to you, feel free to reply :)

BTW, it shouldn't be blue so make sure to reset the color in the WB configuration to the default AeroTime skin color.
